About Our Caitlin

Caitlin was smart, curious, and full of quiet mischief. She had an eclectic taste in music, building a playlist of hundreds of songs that ranged from 60s, 70s, and 80s classics, musical numbers, pop, techno, rock, and parody. Her favourite band was Gorillaz, and she learned choreographed dances to many different songs, a highlight and her favourite dance including What is Love.

She had a wicked sense of humour, a broad taste in films and online games, and an old-fashioned sentimentality that made her delight in ‘sweeties’, vintage nighties, and comfort shows from decades past.

She found joy in marine studies at school, where a boat excursion became one of her favourite memories. She had a love of nature, especially the beach and the ocean. Reflected in both her conversations and the photos she leaves behind, she continually stopped to smell the roses – quite literally – and never took for granted a rainforest, the ocean, a garden, birds in the trees, horses and cows in the fields, possums, kangaroos, and all types of flora and fauna.

She is missed deeply by those who were lucky enough to know her, those close to her loved ones, and those in the online communities she helped brighten.

Caitlin weathered so much and still chose to show up for the things she loved. This is just one of the legacies she leaves us.

There will always be more to say about Caitlin — more memories, more laughter, more love. A website can only hold so much. She was, and remains, so much more than words or images can say.

She gave the most thoughtful gifts – the kind that made people feel truly seen – and she poured days of love into making things for others. Her gifts and creations have travelled across the nation for family, friends, and friends of friends.

She carried a gentle heart in a world that wasn’t always gentle back – yet she met life with humour and a fierce resilience against battles that not everybody saw, including severe anxiety and depression. In 2023 she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, unknowingly having battled silently with feeling unwell for months leading up to diagnosis.

Through treatment and fear she continued to show remarkable strength. Even in the hardest moments, she actively seeked out small sparks of delight: a pink donut, an iced chocolate, a visit to Spotlight. She did her best to hold tight to the people she loved and to the things that made her feel like herself. Her courage was quiet and profound.

Creativity was an anchor for Caitlin, and where she shone. Through crochet, photography, digital art, she found identity and a way to make the world softer. She transformed yarn into playful worlds and creatures. She photographed things that caught her eye – leaves, blooms, insects, animals, the beauty hiding in small spaces.

When life was overwhelming, it seemed like crafting gave her a sense of calm, connection, and control.  Crafting and gaming were spaces where her strength and creativity could flourish.  Stitch by stitch, frame by frame, showcasing her ability to notice beauty everywhere.
