Octopus for a Preemie Project
‘Every tentacle a hug; soft comfort for the smallest hearts.’
Around Australia, volunteers come together to crochet miniature octupus teddies that are used by premature babies in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). The tentacles on the octopus resemble the umbilical cord, and provide therapeutic value and a sense of security for babies who are unable to be held constantly. They are also valuable as a distraction to stop the babies from pulling on and dislodging cords.

Random Acts of Crochet Kindness unites crocheters across the world in a heartfelt mission to spread joy. This community is committed to creating and leaving delightful crochet pieces in various locations (often with a note explaining that the item is free for the taking), aimed at bringing a smile to someone’s day through these unexpected, charmin discoveries.
Mackay “Rocks”
‘Take it with you or rehide it for someone else to find.’
Mackay “Rocks” invites people to ‘hide’ painted rocks around the Mackay region to brighten people’s day. This community-building group is designed to inspire creativity in all ages and energize people to explore the beautiful Mackay region.

When a crafter passes mid-project, or is no longer able to do handwork due to disability or illness, they will likely have unfinished items they were making for friends and family. These tangible, handmade expressions of love mean everything to their loved ones. Loose Ends aims to ease grief, create community, and inspire generosity by matching volunteer handwork finishers with projects people have left undone due to death or disability.
